WHY CHOOSE SAFETY IN THE MARKET
At Safety in the Market, we’ve been teaching students across the globe since 1989. Our company was founded by David Bowden, who made a name for himself in the 80’s and 90’s with his accurate market forecasts, such as calling the actual day of the share market top for 1987 and the subsequent low on 10 February 1988 in advance.
For 1989 he was one day out, nominating 3 October as the day of the top, with panic and reversal to follow. (It actually came in on the morning of October 4.) In March 1990 he forecast a major change in trend for stock markets around the world, nominating 16 January 1991 as a date to watch. This later proved to be the start of the Gulf War, and coincidentally the low of the year for the Australian share market.
David began his trading journey in the 1980’s after seeing an article about WD Gann, a trader who reportedly made over $50 million out of the markets in the first half of the 20th century. (Back when $50 million was a HUGE amount of money) This piqued his curiosity and his desire to learn how he did it, and so began his study of Gann’s works and application of them in today’s markets.
Following Gann’s lessons and with time and dedication, David began to make a name for himself as a trader. He credits his success to Gann’s teachings but found, like many, that Gann’s works were at times esoteric and his style of writing often difficult to decipher. He decided to fly to the US in search of a mentor where he hoped to learn more about Gann’s style of trading. Unfortunately, his search proved unsuccessful and instead he met traders who would later become his first students, who were eager to fly back to Australia to learn from David.
As word of his trading ability and understanding of Gann grew, David began helping others learn the secrets of Gann’s trading style. In time this began to interfere with his own time to trade, and so David decided to start to document his style of trading, taking what he had learnt from his application of Gann’s lessons and simplifying it into easy-to-follow courses, so his students didn’t have do the hard yards he did with the original works.
David’s philosophy back then, is still part of the ethos of Safety in the Market today. We work hard to streamline our teachings to make it easy for our students to learn and apply these sometimes-complex techniques to their trading.
