Hello and welcome to the March edition of the Safety in the Market Newsletter.

As of Monday, 29 March 2021, Australian CFD traders will be faced with higher margins on most CFD trades, due to an ASIC order from October of 2020. If you’re a CFD trader, you can read my thoughts on this move below.

 
Impact of ASIC Order on CFD Traders

This month, I’m filling in for Rob and I’ve chosen to write on a topic that I’m sure many of you will find interesting – how to take trades with a high Reward to Risk Ratio. In the article, I show you how large moves over a long period of time aren’t necessarily the best ones to target, especially in times like now, when margins are going up, because you don’t want to have your capital tied up longer than it needs to be. There is a difference between trading a large move in the market and achieving a large Reward to Risk Ratio. You can trade a huge move in the market and make money, but if you are risking a large amount as well, then your Reward to Risk Ratio is not going to be all that impressive.

This month it’s back to the metals, in particular, to visit a trade which took place in the last quarter of 2020 in the Platinum futures market.
